Speaking a new language is very hard. Beeto is on a very important trip that will test her Japanese language skills. She wants to talk to everyone, but can they understand each other well enough to become friends?

This children’s picture book depicts my own experiences of living in Itoshima, Japan for three months after studying Japanese for four years. Although I felt prepared enough, it is still intimidating to express ideas and hold conversation in a new language. I was inspired by all the wonderful people who I was able to converse with, as well as all the bugs that kept me company in the Japanese countryside.
